My Favourite Single-Shot Music Videos

I'm a large fanatic of music videos. They instantly have their own niche simply by inherent design. But within that niche is another niche. That of the single-shot music video. These types have always fascinated me, I am instantly hooked whenever I see one. They could be mediocre visually, but the amount of time, planning, and choreography always sets me off. In some of these videos, my mind will blow up trying to understand how someone could even get this idea in their head, but to seamlessly pull it off??? Holy cow. So inspirational. I've assembled most of my favourite one-shots, in an attempt to educate, and share my thoughts. Enjoy!

LCD Soundsystem - "All My Friends" -- Tom Kuntz

Just like the song, the video is effective in it's simplicity and repetitive nature. It manages to evoke strong emotional reactions despite having a simple idea and set-up. I don't think this video would be anywhere near as good with cuts between cameras. The selling point is having James Murphy looking into your eyes as he sings through such emotionally-charged lyrics. Who would guess that a video with nothing but futuristic face paint, lens flares, dolly track, fireworks, smoke, mirrors, rain, and a suit could achieve such an end result? Great video.

You'll see a lot of this when dealing with single-shots (and in this list, too), where the video hasn't been done in one take, but a composite of more than one. The most well-done examples have you thinking "How the Hell did they do that?". And even for something as simple as the first 15 seconds of this video, I still don't know how they managed to do something so seamlessly. This video would have been filmed having the band performing the song sped-up, so that while they are playing in time to the song, their movements are slowed down. Apparently the band only agreed to make a video for the song so long as it didn't involve a sweater actually being in the video itself. Of all the concepts that were pitched to the band, this was the only one that filled that simple criteria. I love how a simple blue background being toyed around with overhanging lights can create such striking images, and transitions compositionally.

Wax - Southern California -- Spike Jonze

Here's Spike Jonze again. Once more with the single-take video, coupled with slow-motion. He once again takes a surreal and simple idea, and takes it to successful heights. This is one of his more iconic works, because the most prosperous music videos cater to a simple idea that seemingly anyone could do, but nobody has done before. I love the little girl at the end, as if this just another day in her California life.

It seems as though everyone and their dog has seen this video, but you can't deny it for what is is; a stunning example of the Single-Take music video. Apart from the lavish colours and the musical theatre dance routine, what grabs my attention the most is camera work. The choreography is arranged in such a way that it was entirely conscious of the camera, and perspective of the audience, the entire way. And how the camera is incorporated directly with the dancers, from the birds-eye-view of Feist "running", everyone falling in sync to her and the camera spinning, to the unsuspecting barrel-roll from the camera through all the people, is really quite exhilarating.

Come Into My World - Kylie Minogue -- Michel Gondry

I am HUGE fan of Michel Gondry's works. His manipulation of mise en scène is incredible, and is a direct influence on what I want to do with the rest of my life. That being said, here is another example of what is described as "hiding the cuts". Obviously, this "one" shot is impossible, and the cuts are clearly made as telephone poles cross the frame, and other spots. However, that being said, I still have no idea how he did this! The incorporation interaction between all of the Kylie Minogue's seem like something that no matter how hard you tried, you could never pull it off. But here it is, right before your eyes! Were someone to try and explain this to me using words, I wouldn't have a clue how to imagine it.

Cibo Matto - Sugar Water -- Michel Gondry

Michel Gondry again. Again toying with the concept of the single-shot music video. At the same time, this is and isn't a single shot. Absolutely blows my mind. I can't even understand how he would get this idea in his head! Let alone trying to explain it to the countless people needed to make it! Concept art would not be enough. The part in the middle with the words "YOU KILLED ME", unbelieveable!

Kaiser Chiefs - Love's Not A Competition (But I'm Winning) -- Jim Canty

This video always reminds me of Hitchcock's "Rear Window". A voyeuristic view on the world surrounding you. I'm not sure if this was actually done with one take, but I like to believe it is. With a huge telescopic lens, the most steady-handed camera operator and camera assistant at your disposal, I dare you to try and come up with something more invigorating and creative. I DARE you!

Ok Go - Here It Goes Again -- Trish Sie & OK Go

The bare-bones of single-shot music videos: the locked-off camera. This is where the camera doesn't change it's angle, it's focal length or focal distance. It stays exactly where you left it, and does nothing. This allows a lot of challenge, as well as pressure, on whatever is in front of the camera. Any movement offered has to come from the subject, and the need for a really great song is much higher, as the visual characteristic is less effective. However, this is all thrown out the window while watching this video. The members of OK Go provide an unmatched routine amidst treadmills! Something like this has never been seen, which only begs the question; "why hasn't this been done before?". This echoes what I said earlier about single-shot videos need to raise that question in order to be as effective as possible.

Fatboy Slim - Champion Sound -- Steve Glashier

Technically, this really shouldn't belong this list, but since it was still done in one take, and at it's heart it really wants to be done through one-shot, I'm going to include it. This really embodies what these videos are all about; innovative, simple, and with the ability to stir something up inside you. This is another one of those "why hasn't this been done before?" videos. By the way, that guy at the end is Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim.

I Was A Cub Scout - I Hate Nightclubs -- Dan Lowe

Firstly, these guys are AWESOME. I wish I could get my hands on their CD. The moving time-lapse has always been an all-time favourite of mine. I really like how the blurring that will inherently occur with shooting in dark areas isn't avoided, but embraced, and it really adds to the mood they wanted to pull off. That mood being a rushed, small show of some band just trying to do any kind of performance that isn't in their parents basement.

Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes -- Alex Courtes & Martin Fougeral

THIS VIDEO BLOWS MY MIND!!! There is so much happening here, and it never seems to get out of hand, as though the makers didn't know exactly what they were trying to achieve, and how. Very, very effective. This song rocks, but it rocks ten times more coupled with these visuals. So great!!

In Context - Field Music -- Dan Lowe

Easy idea, hard execution. I could see other people coming up with this idea, of having a narrow perspective of something happening right in front of, with no idea of the big picture. Very hard to achieve, and hard to pull off as something light. Half the fun is watching this guy draw in time to the music, and scratching your head wondering if this person know just what the heck they're doing. The reveal at the end is a great "a-ha!" moment.

No Surprises - Radiohead -- Grant Gee

Radiohead loves to make a grand scheme of imperfection with their music, and this video is of no exception. This video is a great collaboration with the music, as the song grows with sound, as does the video grows with light, and use of environment.

Viva Death - Professionals -- Darren Doane

Big fan of Darren Doane, his simplistic and guerrilla approach to film making is inspiring, especially in this day and age. This is a great example of "trouble right around the corner". How we can be so distracted by simple earthly desires, and be entirely blind to the terror surrounding us. Simplistic approach, and easily missed.

Free As A Bird - The Beatles -- Joe Pytka

What a fantastic send-off to one of the most influential bands ever. Clearly done by cutting the video to achieve a continuous ride through the history of a greater music generation. I can see why many wouldn't think this should be on this list, as it's more like a series of less-than-perfect transitions from one shot to the next. Nuts to them, I say.

This video is all about context. There are apparently between 80 and 100 allusions to Beatles music, lyrics, and history. What a beautifully, condensed video. Usually a video filled with so many references to the band has a snobby kind of feel, as though if we don't get the innuendo we don't deserve the overall intended impact. "Free As A Bird" veers away with this with an elegant and cordial sense to it. The richly-soaked past of The Beatles is inviting, instead of overwhelming. It offers a nostalgic feel for these boys we got to know all about, and the bittersweet affect of how it's all gone now is left lingering long after the video's initial viewing.

7:43 am: Wake up, decide I don't need to shower. Eat breakfast and shtuff.

8:03 am: Neighbour tells me good morning. He is wearing a suit. Ordinarily he is wearing a roughriders jersey when I see him, so it was a nice change. Wonder wear [sic] he works.

8:11 am: Arrive at bus stop, cute blonde waiting with me, suddenly wish I had taken that shower.

8:16 am: Bus is full, forced to stand next to acne-ridden teenage boy reading Wheel of Time. This guy rules.

8:27 am: Arrive at SAIT. Cute blonde gets off here to!

8:44 am: Time to mount the HDcam on the dolly. Still sleepy.

Robert Jordan Died Today

“Life is a dream. All dreams must end.”
These are words sung by the Aiel, one of many dozens of intricate cultures found within the vivid world of the Wheel of Time, created by James Rigney, Jr. under the pen name of Robert Jordan.

After fighting the disorder amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy for over a year and a half, James Oliver Rigney, Jr. died of complications from this disorder on Sunday, September 16 at 2:45 P.M. He was one month away from his fifty-ninth birthday. He is survived by his wife, Harriet, who served as editor for his books, and his son, Will.

James Rigney, Jr. was born on October 17, 1948. He decided at an early age that he wanted to write, but decided to wait until he had experienced more in life which he could bring to his fiction. Before he became a professional writer, he served two tours in Vietnam through the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with bronze oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star with Valor and bronze oak leaf cluster, and two Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry with Palm. He attended the Citadel in South Carolina, where he earned a degree in physics. He went on to become a nuclear engineer, employed by the U.S. Navy.

The best-selling writer of twenty-five books had the distinction of spending over eighty weeks on the New York Times’ Bestsellers lists for his various releases in hardback and paperback both. His books were published in 22 countries. He was also an accomplished dance and theatre critic, contributing to Library Journal, Fantasy Review and Science Fiction Review under the name of Chang Lung. Besides Robert Jordan, he also wrote books under the pseudonyms Reagan O’Neal and Jackson O’Reilly.

He was in constant communication with his fans throughout the world, and touched millions of lives through his writing. In his series, he described the term ta’veren as one who is chosen by the Wheel of Time to bend the pattern of the web of destiny; one thread which pulls others to it and changes lives without even realizing it. Such was the life of James Rigney, Jr. Whether he met them or did not, there are thousands of stories to be found of readers who connected through his books, forged lasting relationships, improved their lives and worked to serve others through charitable acts as a result of reading the Wheel of Time series.

He will be remembered as a man of constant strength, passion and dignity, who left a lasting impact on the world of fiction and beyond. His influence will continue to touch the world long after his passing; within his books, readers old and new will discover the legends he created for many years to come. The grave is no bar to his call.

This is a video we pulled off for a 48 horror film-fest. The genre we were given (asides from horror) was 'Musical'. Our prop was a suitcase, and our line was "I got you a humdinger(or something) for your birthday, and this is how you repay me?" Completely original script, score, and choreography.

Now listen here: the time has come. Everyone should've expected this would happen. Whether you think it's for good or for ill, regardless it's inevitable.

I'm coming out with a new CD.

The first questions are the obvious. Question like ''When?'' or even What's it gonna be called?''. Joel asked me ''like same sort of stuff?''.

I have no idea what it'll be called. That's not the most important at this point. I'm shooting for a late-May/early-June release. The optimum time do to would really be more like late-April/early-May, but I hadn't completely convinced myself to do it until last night. I had a breakthrough idea of what it should be like, and as far as I myself am concerned it will BLOW YOUR MIND. It's not so much a concept album as it is an album built around a mind-bending idea. I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but you will seriously just have to wait and see. I'm super pumped over this and I want it to be as good as it can be. I don't want it to be super-rushed.

and in regards to Joel's question: yes and no. Obviously it will sound something like it did, as the same person is making the music, right? But I've learned some new tricks since, and I have even more I haven't fully busted outright yet.

I will definitely keep you posted as much as I can as this develops. It's actually gonna have a pretty weak start, since I'm directing for the next shoot, which means all my thoughts should really be concentrated on that. But it'll be hard!

What I gots here are some most non-heinous pictorials from the ol' seattle road trip. Enjoi.

This was right outside Ferny I think. Once upon a time a rockslide took place and smashed it up.

Dirty windshield.

This is what the weather was like starting out.

In our entire drive through B.C. we only encountered one lonely tunnel. I struggled to get my camera out in time, but I failed to do so. This is the resulting picture.

Huge rocks and boulders and cliffsides were always just on the shoulder of the highway, it was scary. Naturally it was always on the passenger side.

You know you're definitely from the prairie when you take a picture of how there isn't a horizon. It genuinely made me nervous that I couldn't see all the way around me.

The first set of streetlights we saw in the states! Wooooo!

We pulled over at the first town we came to (Bonner County or something), and right across the street from us was every American stereotype. After Bonerville it was too dark to take any pictures.

This is the view we had in our hotel room the next morning. The crappy weather did not deter us.

Taken from the hallway in the hotel, that's how close we were to the Needle.

Here it is a little closer up. No we didn't actually go up it. Despite Matt's continual attempts at trying to guilt-trip me into it ("But we're in Seattle! How can you go to Seattle and NOT go to the Space Needle?") I am just too cheap, and I don't feel like I missed out on anything anyways.

We were driving down the Kensington equivalent of Seattle, and I held out my camera and took pictures of things as we drove by.

Don't ask us why, but we went to this antique shop that was like 60, 000 square feet! They had this one section in the way back that was old postcards from around the world, and this was found under Canada. Too good.

I have other pictures of course, but since when do I put every single detail of everything on here? That's all you'll get, so you'd better dang well enjoy it y'hear?

"We're southbound on the #1, weather conditions are nominal, the tank is full, and we're munching on some Subway. So far, so awesome."

"I've never seen the mountains before and they're very breath-taking. I took some pictures but I don't think they're even close to doing them justice"

"After stopping at the world's largest truck, Matt and I are on our way again. The weather is not that great... I thought what I was seeing before were mountains but now that I'm in B.C. I am frickin' BLOWN AWAY! Mountains and mountainous! The weather isn't optimum for looking at the mountains (or anything else), so I can't even see the tops of them! I think this might make them seem bigger, but I don't know, I'm too naive and from Saskatchewan to know any better. My ears keep popping from going up and going down again and again.
There are so many trees too! Criminy!"

Coming into the city was so bizarre and other-worldly. It was the first time I've ever been on a freeway and it was completely empty. It was so cool!
We're really tired, and we're callin' it a night."

"we went back to the hotel after a bunch of walking around the space needle/seattle center and we watched some courtroom TV. Since then we drove to the ocean where I am right now. I love the air here, and the sounds. I was just standing in one place staring into the water for 20 minutes. I hope the pictures I took do any experience I've had here justice. It's raining as I write this, so I think I'll try to remember this feeling and write it down in the car."

I like looking at people in other cars and making faces at them."

We were right at the intersection and we really couldn't have seen it any better. We pulled over and seriously in the time it took for us to park, get out, and walk over to it there was already a firetruck and an ambulance. I think they were on their way to somewhere else though, actually. We offered our witness statements, but it was pretty clear even out of context who was at fault. Matt took some pictures and I took this journal and a pen, I commented on how we're like those dickhead reporters with Princess Di. Pretty bizarre and it seemed like out of a movie."

So I posted something less than a day ago that was an email I got from residence about how someone started a fire. (Someone was frying chicken, started a fire and tried putting it out with water. I rhetorically asked "who's a big enough idiot to do that?" to which brandon replied "well that's what I'd do"). I took down that post because the fire alarm was pulled three times all weekend. Last night (or today) it was pulled at 4:15 am. I was pretty pleased.

Finally, enclosed is the first write rough draft of the script we will be using on Friday. Depending on what type of movie we are assigned to do, it is subject to change. It does however give everyone an idea of what to expect from the final shooting script.

The Filmies

So for the past three weeksish me and three other people; Justin Turcotte, Katie Kidd, and Kenya Hushagen, have all been planning an awards ceremony for all the videos everyones done this semester. We decided to call it The Filmies.

Friday was the day of the awards, and it went off without a hitch. Everyone had a super time, everyone was happy, everyone was super-impressed with us who'd put in a lot of effort after school when we should have been studying for finals. So it was all definately worth it. A lot of work, and a lot (a LOT!) of fun.

Here are a few choice pictures I'd taken afterwards. I'm just gonna go against everyone's right for privacy for this blog.

On the left is Ivona with her award (I'm assuming) for Best Actress. Then Jon, Kyla (who won for Best Drama, Best Director, and Best Overall. WOW) Then there's Andrew, followed by Liz at the most right there.

My Most Anticipated Release of 2007

I felt this had to be written down somewhere where at least someone will read it. I get pretty excited about a lot of CD releases, but this is going to be one of my most anticipated of all time. (I don't think TFK's Phenomenon anticipation will EVER be beaten...I ran across the highway to get that sucker at lunch the day it was released...and i was a law abiding boy back then!) Anyways, this release is due Spring 2007. Keep ya guessin'. If you've talked to me about my all time favourite albums...this band has come up (besides TFK and Underoath). Their current CD has my award of "Best overall CD of all time" (including art, packaging, music, flow, completeness, you name it). My "Best overall CD of all time" award belongs to a CD called The Everglow. That'll give it away for some people. Others, I really can't think of anything else to delay writing the inevitable. I am unbelievably excited for MAE's 3rd (excluding B-sides) full length release! SPRING 2007! If it's HALF as good as The Everglow (which it will be...OR BETTER!) it's well worth 25+ dollars. OH BOI!

P.S. Expect another post by me sometime after Kevin has done another 30 posts...

So today at work I had a brush with fame. Mila Kinus came to see The Fountain.

If you don't know who that is, it's ok, I didn't either until AFTER SHE LEFT. She's the chick who plays Jackie from That 70's Show. You know, the brunette one who's all into herself or whatever. She's also the voice for Meg in Family Guy. That's right. I think I heard she was in town because she's filming a movie called Straight Edge or something. I dunno.

This girl here, in case you're completely lost.

When I got home, I did some research up on her and I guess she is or is getting married to Macaulay Culkin. I really wish I had known sooner, since I used to pretend I was Kevin McCallister when I was a kid, and that would've been sweet to bring up in coversation. Dang! Oh well, c'est la vie. She was with some guy wo had facial hair so it was definately NOT M.C..

But I digress; as soon as she came out of The Fountain (of which I'm very excited to see, but I haven't see it yet) she started talking to this girl I work with (who knew who she was) and was like "that movie was a piece of shit! It was so pretentious!". I still want to see it though...

She seemed nice I guess, but she really didn't like that movie.

The scenario in my dream was pretty weird (actually really weird), so I won't get into that, but it involved a roll call of this really large group of people all from Swift Current, it took place before I left for Calgary, and as this person was running through it, they got to "Matt Watterworth" (a classmate I have here). Shaken, I gave a "HUH?!?!?!?" and WOKE UP FIVE MINUTES BEFORE I HAD TO BE OUT OF THE DOOR!!!

Today marks the start of No-Shave November. Or, for brevity's sake, No-Shavember. I actually got this idea from Jeff Powell last November, I hadn't even heard of it before then.
I will record my results. This may end up immasculating, but I will do it for posterity's sake. I'm pretty much doing this for the sake of everything.

I made sure to shave yesterday, so that I could have a clean slate. I've already got stubble. In grade ten it would've taken me a week to grow this already.

I'm not too sure how well I'm spelling that, but sweet eh? He was on much music for about 5 years and has been doing his own show on cbc for like a year and a half called the hour. He's really down to earth and kinda the voice of the younger generation. He spoke at SAIT today, and i was QUITE in attendance. After I went down and well, I'll try to give you a script:

before I actually talked to him, he asked me what i said to the girls if they call me pretty, so of course i immedeatly replied with "thanks" so then he said "thanks" to the girls who called him pretty. Later, there were people around but noone went right up to him so i said "I guess I'll take the current time to greet you." Which was followed by genuine laughter from a famous person! heck ya. (not to mention the insignificant peons around us). He thanked me for being out for it or whatever, and a handshake. I told him that I learned from what he said, and asked him to sign my hand "so I can take a picture of it later." Which he did, I asked him what band was on his hoodie after that because during his speakin'time he talked about how he loves just exchanging bands with other people. So it is "Flashlight Brown" a punk rock band from Toronto, and theyre definitely not bad. Oh, and he said if I hear of a band I should email him or something, so I think I'm going to introduce him to the wonderful act known as MEANS. One more handshake and that was that. I couldn't believe this, but it took me like 10 MINUTES to open my orange pop (that was like half empty). The pictures start when I realized "dang this would make a good blog"

So, I had been working on the bottle for at least 3 or 4 minutes...maybe 5 by this time. I put down the bottle and got my camera at this point.

That'd be my dull Niagara Falls Pocket Knife...

I actually poked a small hold in the lid with the screw thing here, I'm not holding on to it. I figured maybe the pressure inside was why I couldnt get it off...I was wrong. (Later I found out the pop wouldnt even go through the hole...WHICH IS INSANE!)

I was getting so desperate at this point, I'd already used towels and stuff to try the classic wrap method, but I figured why not give it one last go with the superhero pyjama bottoms (spiderman). AND IT FRIgGIN WORKED!

When it happened, I froze my face in the expression so i could capture it for everyone.

Holy crap I can't believe how hard that was (my hands hurt like a minute in, it was torture)

By this time i had forgotten why I even wanted it open.

Here's a short little thing one of my classmates made the day of the Zombie Walk.

Sweet Zombie Jesus!!!

On October saturday the 14th (the scariest day of the year), 2006, Calgary hosted what is commonly referred to as a "Zombie Walk". A Zombie Walk is where people dress up as zombies and shuffle along a pre-determined route downtown for an afternoon. In layman's terms; it's the sweetest thing ever. Quite needless to say, brandon wiebe and I went along for the ride and boy did we ever NOT regret it.
It was seriously like something out of a movie, zombies as far as the eye can see, shuffling, with moans of 'braaaaaaaaaaaains' heard in the background. Confused zombies, angry zombies, the bumbling kind of zombie who runs into other zombies, and bloodthirsty zombies all made up for an interesting mix.
There was at least 500 other zombies, and staying in character was no problem. When everyone around you won't even talk to you, just moan, and everyone is limping, or have their arms outstretched, you feel like an idiot NOT doing it (I think that's how mob psychology works).
We have roughly a thousand little stories from this one afternoon, and it's probably going to end up being one of those things where you simply had to have been there. Way too much fun, I'm already excited for next year.
I know there are a ton of pictures, but I still don't think we took enough. Too fun!

And of course we had to take vanity zombie pictures afterwards.

Not a good day today. Headache. Nosebleed after nosebleed. What is the deal with that? Plus I forgot to set my alarm last night, and now if I miss one more class with a certain instructor for the rest for the rest of the semester, I get kicked out of it. UGH!!! and I have two papers to do by wednesday, and an in-class assignment I didn't get to do because that was the class I missed, so I don't know what the scoop will be on that.

Here's some positives for today, so I don't get totally bummed out from this post: I had a test today that I did pretty okay on, not a disaster there. Finally finished watching the box set of season two of The Office, and WOW, that was so good. Definately a first that a tv show has made me cry. And who would have thought the office? Also, Prison Break tonight was PHENOMENAL. I still can't get over that. The Colbert Report is on tonight, which always perks me up. I've watched more t.v. in the time I've been here at SAIT than the past four years of my life. That's crazy, I think.

Also, I swear everyone in swift has a calgary counterpart. I keep seeing people who remind me of you all back home. Also, in class when the instructors are teaching something, I try to make comparisons and examples of videos we've done to what's being taught, and then I get homesick in the middle of class. That or I think of funny parts of the video in my head and laugh out loud for no reason. More often the latter.

Well that homework ain't gettin' itself done, I'd better get crackin' on it.

So all three of us were in the living room, I think we were watching The Greatest Thing To Ever Grace God's Green Earth (Stephen Colbert), but I'm not sure. I caught myself playing with my flashdrive, which is this thing,

and during a moment of apathy, I said aloud "do you think I could swallow this?"
Joel: No, there's no way.
Me: There totally is, it's completely plausible.
Joel: I bet you fifty bucks you can't do it.
Me: Serious?
Joel: I am DEAD serious. You swallow that thing, you get fifty bucks from me.
(from this point here on in, add brandon wiebe saying things like "Joel don't make him do this", "Joel, how could you do this to your best friend?", "oh REAL mature you guys!" almost every other line)
Me: You already owe me $500 (this is true)
Joel: Well yah, but I actually will pay you this back.

star pilot fighter ship

hi its me. normally i'd post this sort of thing on my own blog, but seeing as that i haven't posted on here yet and that it somewhat pertains to this school, i'll put it here!

okay so this is bad - fourth day of classes and i already was doodling. i have a horrible doodling problem, worst than most people. sometimes i can't wait to go to class so that i have time to draw poorly-done wacky stuff. today i came up with a new cartoon series - Star Pilot Fighter Ship. (also, unfortunately i've been saying "sweet" alot recently, and i won't spare you from it here) it's so sweet. It's about this legendary pilot, Star Pilot Fighter Ship. he is some city's hero, fighting monsters and robots and the like in his legendary plane. along for the ride is his trusty companion albin (the robot) and the unfortunate girl who always gets kidnapped by monsters by chance.

apparently i have lots of free time at college, because i threw this together and have plans to make a sweet trailer in the near future. it won't happen.

So I'm in my room and I hear Inked In Blood coming from somewhere, this is a not too well known Christian Hardcore band and I'm like man I have to meet this guy. So I wait, and I here like 10 more songs all of which I own and love, and not just hardcore, we're talking the rare treasures that most hardcore kids dont like too. The Elected, Mae, Daft Punk, Metric, along with rarer stuff like MEANS! and Fair. I hate writing about this and you'll find out why. So I decide i have to find where this is coming from...I go outside and start listening around on my floor, the 10th. I check the 9th and 11th and man I can't find it. I make a couple friend/acquantances on the way because I'm knocking on doors trying to find it. Long story short, I check all 14 floors, most more than once. It took me around 2 hours, I missed one of our prison break episodes. Helped a guy named Matt find out hes in the wrong room (sharing it with females, weird ones, one is like 35) so now hes going to be on our floor where he should have been the whole time. I got so much accomplished, but I DIDNT FIND MY FRICCCCKIN SELF! like I'M IN HERE SOMEWHERE! It's rare enough to find someone that likes all the same hardcore as me let alone ALL the other stuff i like. I haven't heard ONE song that I didnt like from it yet. It's in the pipes/ducts and you can hear the music in every floor in the doors and the vents and its driving me insane (its not really loud, but loud enough). I CAN'T FIND MYSELF and i think if i did, we would both simultaneously explode. It is driving me absolutely insane. I dont know if i'll sleep tonight... (I'm quite sure I will...) but my laptop/nano have a ghost...and its in the entire residence, i can hear it now and im not even in my room. WoW. If you want to pray that i find this guy, go hard because he must be ME...uh...sorry for no pictures eh...it would have been a good one to have pictures of...me sweating and running down and up floors of stairs for 2 hours....this blog is finished

I hate my life. How can one be so stupid as to put "it must be ME" and not realize that it was in fact, me. I said that my nano was in my pocket...but didn't have the brains to you know...see if it was ON...(it was quite loud sometimes though, it really didn't seem like it came from my pocket at all...guess i should have taken physics. "I'M IN HERE SOMEWHERE!!" says myself...very GOOD brandon, yes you are in residence. And i guess im still original...ugh. (clarification: i didnt knock on every door...probably onlyl like 3 or 4) So uh...its a good thing im at a tech school...not a university, because i am STUPID. you know that song RESPECT by aretha franklin (is it by her?) well my version would be "S. T. E. W. P. I. D." oh, and i said i was trying to find myself...i wish i would have taken my own advice. You know how kids go to college to find themselves...i had no idea that this was how it worked. *sigh* this is only the first day of classes...pray for me...hard.

p.s. in all seriousness, i do believe God had a hand in this, because I'm not THAT stupid, and I helped a guy find out he's in the wrong room and get him established to where he should be and all this, and I noticed the m usic when I was distraught and reading my Bible on the bed, and I'm pretty sure there was a prayer in their about using me or His will or something...and if there wasn't, I know there was yesterday and the day before and stuff. so ROCK! ...you know that term humility that they use all nice in church...its a nice way of saying you were the butt end of humor...humiliated...thatd be me tonight. well, love you family. (i'm fine)

"A Fridge Too Far"

We each got one of those 'build a sentence' magnetic things during our orientation, and thus we have an abundance of them. Not to mention the alphabet.

So I made a blogging adventure out of it!

This is my first official blog on an official blog website. brandonwiebesadventures...brace yourself.
Kevin said he was going to make bacon and eggs, needless to say he didn't, which left me on my own (i was impatient). I decided to make my specialty, the croissantwich (copyright). So i get to the croissants, and I realize that i don't want to fricking wash dishes, which means no utencils. Good luck brandon, good luck.

Needless to say , I'm amazing.

I turned off the flash.

Much better. Our freezer is pretty ######## full. (insert what you want there, i prefer "pantsing") I had to find the meat in here...because sandwiches need meat.
I found it, but couldn't close the door.
The meat was frozen, and i didn't want to use it all...well i did, but that's not smart. I had to ask Kevin what to do, needless to say he was no help.
I put the summer sausage back, because i didn't want to open two meat packets, that'd be way too much work. This would also later prove to be an amazing flavour decision.
I put the ham out to thaw...
It took awhile...
SO I PUT IT IN THE MICROWAVE!!
Skip a few mishaps and whatnot here...and it's in the o' so lovely toaster oven (heart)
I said I was amazing.
And like always, i ATE ALONE! :D
i love my roommates...

2nd Post

Today I made my first breakfast of my college life! It consisted of:

corn pops and iced tea.

Sigh...

In my morning excursions, I had this thought: "Holy crap we have a lot of food." This is the result of shopping for like two days with three seperate families.

(those beers belong to 4th guy, I swear it.)

(Ok, so we're lacking in some spots. But still! I want to see what your place looks like when you've just moved in.)

During this process of taking tons of pictures, I stumbled upon this drawer...

I swear I've seen this knife before... IN THE POSSESSION OF LUCIFER HIMSELF! I mean, lookit this thing!

And so, with it, I did what any blue-blooded Canadian living with Brandon Wiebe would do next...
